Overview

The JPX925 Hot Metal is Mizuno's distance-focused cavity-back iron for mid-to-high handicappers. In the Hot Metal family it sits between the larger HL and the more compact Pro. Testers agree that it goes a long way and is forgiving: thin and off-centre strikes hold their yardage and stay near the target.

Most testers found the feel solid, powerful and controlled, though one thought it firm and thin. Opinions on looks were split. Some saw a sleek, playable shape, and others found it chunky, with a thick topline and noticeable offset.

Launch, spin and shot shape caused the most disagreement. Some testers got plenty of height and stopping power. Others found the long irons flew lower with less spin, and testers variously saw a draw, a fade-friendly flight or a mostly straight one.

What reviewers like

  • Very long, with high ball speed off the face
  • Forgiving, with mishits keeping distance and staying fairly straight
  • Solid, powerful feel in keeping with Mizuno irons

Watch out for

  • Strong lofts and tight gaps can make long and mid-iron gapping tricky
  • Wide sole may hinder clean contact for some players

Who it suits

It suits mid-to-high handicappers and less experienced golfers who want extra distance and forgiveness with a Mizuno feel. Golfers who hit the ball low should get fitted to check launch and spin.
