7-Iron Loft Chart: Up to 8° Apart Between Iron Sets
A "7-iron" is not one loft. We compared the 7-iron loft of the 108 iron sets in golfclubase.
- The strongest 7-iron loft is 27° (Callaway Big Bertha Irons, TaylorMade SIM2 Max OS Irons) and the weakest 35° (Titleist T250 Launch Spec Irons): 8° apart, about 2 clubs.
- The median is 30°; half of the sets are between 29° and 32°.
- By type, muscle backs average 33.5°, cavity backs 31.3° and hollow bodies 30°: the more forgiving the iron, the stronger the loft.

Why 7-iron lofts differ so much
Game-improvement irons have stronger lofts so each club flies farther. The whole set shifts, and such sets often add an AW or GW.
So when you compare how far you hit your 7-iron with someone else, compare lofts, not numbers. When you change irons, check that the lofts carry on from your wedges and hybrids.
